Day 12 : Muntig to Ujung Water Palace

Summary: Length: 35 kms, Total descent: 700m (ends at sea level.) Great single track wth a few rocky sections at the start and a long downhill to end the day.

This is a day of water palaces and temples. It starts off in the very arid east side if Mount Agung and within an hours riding on a combination of singletrack and small roads we cross back into the lush rice paddies of Karangasem — a Regency of Bali that used to be ruled by a King with a penchant for water palaces. He built 3 and they all exist today in varying states of disrepair. We end the morning ride in Tirta Gangga water palace where you can take a well earned refreshing dip or look around the lush gardens.

After lunch, we put the bikes on the trailer and head up to the temple complex at Lumpuyang where we leave the minibus and do an optional hike to the Temple at the top of Mt Bisbis via 1000 steps. The views across to Mount Agung on a good day are stunning. We return down a different path and pick up the bikes on the next ridge along for a well earned downhill blast, past the second water palace at Ujung to the Guest House at Jasi, our home for 2 nights.
