Day 8 : Hotel Bedugul to Batur Crater

Summary: Length: 35 kms. This is a day of two half rides with some excellent forest trails in the morning and an introduction to the Batur Crater rides in the afternoon.

After an hours transit to the Bedugul Hotel, we start today’s ride on an uphill forest trail that takes us around the rim of Bratan’s Crater Lake. This is followed by a rewarding downhill section through the forest with plenty of roots and ruts to test your skills. Eventually emerging onto a small road, we spend the rest of the morning riding east across the tops of 3 valleys witnessing everyday life in rural Bali, finally arriving at our lunch stop….you guessed it, a pleasant restaurant with good food and great views.

The afternoon ride introduces you to riding in the famous Batur Caldera, a definite highlight of the trip. This huge circular depression is 16 km in diameter and is dominated by a volcanic cone in its centre which rises 700 m from the caldera floor. We start the ride from a height of 1600 m and ride off the rim on a sharp and dusty descent to a large platform that sits above the caldera floor. We follow some great singletrack down the platform eventually reaching the village of Songan where you can choose more singletrack or tarmac or call it a day. Your Hotel lies at the end of the trail next to the Batur Caldera Lake.
